Lesotho Prime Minister Thomas Thabane, 80, will be charged with the murder of his first wife Lipolelo Thabane, Police have said.
Mr Thabane announced that he would resign in July due to his age, without making any accusations against him. His current wife Maesaiah Thabane has already been charged with murder.
He will be the first leader in southern Africa to be charged with murder in power, in a lawsuit that has hit the country. 58, was shot dead two days before Mr Thabane became prime minister in 2017.
At the time, he explained that the act of killing his ex-wife was ” irrelevant ” but now police accuse him of being involved in the killing.
” Prime Minister will be charged with murder ”, acting police commissioner Peka Mokete was quoted by British news agency Reuters. ” Police are preparing guidelines and will probably be charged tomorrow, ” he added.
