US Foreign Minister, Mike Pompeo has warned South African government plans to seize the land without compensation that it will ” bring severe consequences ” to the economy and the nation as a whole. Mr. Pompeo made that statement in Ethiopia, during a visit to Africa, where he also visited Angola and Senegal.
” South Africa is in the process of making changes to the law on private property without compensation.
The issue is a threat to the economy but also to the people of South Africa, ” he was quoted by Bloomberg news agency.
The African economy needed ” Strong rule of law, respect for the right to ownership and laws that stimulate investment ”. he added.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has vowed to speed up the process of amendment to the constitutional clause on land grabbing without compensation to restore the ” rented years ” rights caused by the rule of white minorities.

Most farms are owned by white farmers by 72% according to government figures. and that white community constitutes 9% of South African citizens.
The government’s plans were fiercely opposed by the main opposition Democratic Alliance, and especially by the white supremacist groups.
In 2018, US President Donald Trump called on Mr Pompeo to ‘closely monitor the blockade and seizure of agricultural land and the killing of large farmers.’ ‘
The South African government has said Trump was ” misled ” and that the issue would be addressed through diplomatic systems.
